Jeep reveals surprising new vehicle to 2015 lineup at NY auto show

2015 Jeep Renegade release date

Jeep made a surprising reveal at the New York Auto Show on Thursday, April 17. The rugged, sportsmen-centered vehicle line will be adding a smaller, younger feeling compact crossover SUV to the 2015 lineup. The new vehicle will be called the Jeep Renegade.

The 2015 Renegade was met with some skepticism from Jeep purists who appreciate the brand’s rough and tumble roots, but the company is hoping to target a younger generation of drivers who value versatility, fuel economy and aesthetic value.

Jeep manufacturers created the 2015 Renegade through inspiration from both the Wrangler and a trendy Italian luxury vehicle, which makes sense because the Renegade is to be built in Italy. The Renegade will share a platform with the Fiat.

The 2015 Jeep Renegade release date has not yet been announced, but it is expected this vehicle will be available for consumer purchase later this year.

Those interested in doing some rough riding will be pleased to know that Jeep’s off-road capabilities were not lost in the Renegade’s design, as many Jeep loyalists thought they would be. The Renegade offers four-wheel drive, an optional 2.4L engine with a nine-speed automatic transmission and 184 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque, and at least 7.8L/100km as far as fuel economy goes.

Fancy, fun, luxury features are also included in the 2015 Renegade to add appeal for those looking into purchasing a Jeep, but don’t necessarily want the rugged feel of traditional Jeep models. For example, the Renegade will include a cool interior, an open-air dual-panel roof, a personalizable information screen with the speedometer and tachometer, Selec-Terrain traction control and Jeep’s UConnect infotainment system. The 2015 Renegade is expected to fit five adults comfortably.

Many details of the Renegade are still being kept under wraps until the release date gets a touch closer, but one thing is for sure: the Renegade is nothing like Jeep has ever done before. Check back often, as we will be carrying updates on the Renegade as they become available.
