Top 5 summer car care tips
Transitioning from the harsh Edmonton winters to balmy Edmonton summers requires a lot of preparation not only physically but mentally. Whether it’s shedding a few pounds to look good in a swimsuit or unboarding the windows, it’s a process to get ready for the warmer weather.
One often overlooked part of preparing for the summer is getting your vehicle ready. As your car care experts, the staff at Great West Chrysler wanted to make sure you have all of the information you need to get your vehicle ready for summer, so we came up with a list of the top 5 summer car care tips.
1. Check your tires
Your tires and brakes are two of the most essential pieces of your vehicle, besides the engine of course. Without either of these, your vehicle will not work as you’d like, for obvious reasons. Check your tires for wear and tear, especially if you’ve driven on rough, snowy roads all winter. Check tread depth and pressure as well.
2. Replace your windshield wipers
Between all of the snow, ice and other debris, your windshield wipers have likely gotten a workout this winter. An easy fix is to replace them. They’re cheap and easy to replace. If you have any streaks on your windshield after using your wipers, or if there are any cracks or ridges in the blade, it’s time to replace them.
3. Check your fluids
Coolant is one of the main ingredients involved in the proper formula of keeping your engine at the right temperature. Without it, your engine could overheat and leave you stranded. Check all of your fluids from coolant to windshield wiper fluid to prepare for the warmer months ahead.
4. Change your oil
Clean oil is what keeps your vehicle running in tip-top shape. If it’s been about three months since you last got an oil change, we’d recommend getting one. Another thing to check when changing your oil is the oil filter. The oil filter helps keep the oil clean, and in turn, keeps your engine running efficiently.
5. Check your air conditioning
It would be awful to be stranded somewhere or have to go on a long trip without cool air. Air conditioning is almost necessary when it gets to the warmest months of summer, and without it, many become miserable. Check your air conditioning today to make sure cool air is coming out, and make sure that the air coming out stays cool. If it’s not, our service experts would love to help in any way we can.
