You’ve probably scrolled through multiple sites while browsing the web for a new vehicle and came across that same acronym underneath an asterisk: “*Price shown is based on MSRP”. Isn’t it funny how you always come across it while looking for financing options on a vehicle, or when you build and price it on the dealership’s website? Well there’s a good reason why it always gets brought up and it’s not just there as a legal disclaimer to protect the dealership—it’s also there for you, the customer! Read along and you’ll see why it’s important to familiarize yourself with MSRP.
A Brief Overview
Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is the standardized form of pricing among automotive retailers. It’s commonly known as the List price or the “window sticker” because it’s actually the price set by the manufacturers themselves. The MSRP of a vehicle usually suggests that retailers will sell at, or below, the retail price set by the manufacturer. Sometimes, some retailers will only set these prices during a sale or closeout/clearance.
You can find most MSRP policies on the manufacturer’s website under their pricing disclaimer, and they often state the MSRP as the “Starting At” price for their vehicles. For example, the MSRP for a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica LX would be close to $41,000. Compare that to Great West Chrysler’s retail price of around $38,000, and you save close to $3,000—pretty good if you ask me!
What MSRP Means for Customers and How You Can Take Advantage
Now that you know what MSRP is, you can use it as a baseline for when you’re browsing your options in purchasing a vehicle. Most retailers will list their prices below MSRP, but they don’t usually advertise that it is—that’s because they save those prices for special sales and deals. That’s why it’s always important to stay up to date on the latest deals that Great West Chrysler has to offer. Check out our large inventory of Jeep, Dodge, or Chrysler vehicles and compare our prices to the manufacturer’s MSRP. You can see how much you’re really saving when you buy from us!
