What is the Biggest RAM Truck? Towing Capacity

2018-ram-3500

Are you looking for a truck that’s powerful enough to get the job done? Well luckily, RAMs are some of the most powerful trucks around, and it so happens to be Alberta’s #1 truck. We at Great West Chrysler have a large selection of Ram vehicles for you to choose from, all of them powerful enough to tackle the tough jobs it was meant for. Ranging between the RAM 1500, 2500, 3500, and all of the different trims in-between, you have multiple options and many different combinations to choose from.

But which one of these RAM models have the largest towing capacity? You’ll find the answer soon enough, but lets break down the different configurations for each truck. This way, you’ll get a better understanding for each truck, as well as what kinds of towing capacities we’ll be comparing.

Configurations

No matter what RAM truck you decide to choose, you’ll get the best performance possible. What differentiates the different trims and builds is what comes standard and what you can customize on top of it. For example, you can upgrade your RAM 1500’s 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine to a 5.7L HEMI V8 engine if you’d like, but the latter also comes standard on both the RAM 2500 and 3500. Also for each RAM truck, there are different models that come with different features such as the RAM 2500 SLT with 18-inch chrome-clad steel wheels and the Harvest edition with heated leather wrapped steering wheel and seats. And for each truck, you can also upgrade the cab chassis on each truck to better fit whatever you need to carry in the back.

Towing Capacity

A brief explanation before making our comparisons, we’ll be looking at the difference between regular towing capacity and 5th-wheel towing capacity. The main difference between the two is that while towing capacity refers to how much you can tow from the bumper, but for 5th-wheel the hitch is placed in the center of the pickup bed, giving the truck more power because of where the weight is being pulled from.

The Comparison

We’ll be comparing each of the entry-level models for each RAM truck to show you what kind of towing capacity you would get with the most basic-level vehicle before adding other features and trims to each one.

Truck  RAM 1500 RAM 2500 RAM 3500
Maximum conventional towing capacity (kg) 2,009 5,166 5,888
Maximum 5th-wheel towing capacity (kg N/A 5,085 5,806

From the table above, we can see that the RAM 3500 has the highest towing capacity out of all the other RAM trucks, with 5,888 kg. That’s over 11,000 lbs! Can you imagine how much horses you can tow with that thing?
