Did you know Edmonton averages an extra 1,000 monthly collisions in November, December and January? You do now! We’re drivers here, too, and we get it—winter driving in Edmonton can be a harrowing experience. Between the icy roads, inches of snowfall, and (worst of all) other drivers, getting around town six months out of the year can be a real pain.
The good news is there’s one vehicle which looks at the worst the frigid north dishes out on our city and says, “let’s do this.” As far as we’re concerned here at Great West Chrysler, you can’t do much better than having a Jeep® as your partner against an Edmonton winter.
Icy Roads: Handled
You can’t do much better than having a 4×4 with antilock brakes to help with traction on a slippery surface, and every Jeep® has you covered on that base. From the Renegade, to the Cherokee, every Jeep® has the 4×4 capability to handle the black ice. Thanks to Electronic Stability Control, your Jeep® will actually monitor for unstable driving conditions to help you keep control, by either strategically reducing engine power or applying the brakes. Add in the Selec-Terrain® system—available on every model except the Wrangler—and your Jeep® will automatically calibrate its 4×4 to give you the best performance on a winter road. Don’t sell the Wrangler short, though! Instead of Selec-Terrain®, the Wrangler comes with Command Trac™ system for your low-traction, 4×4 driving, and can handle the ice and snow just as well as its cousins.
Inches of Snowfall: Brush it Off
When it comes to comfort in the winter, you might be looking at a soft-top Jeep® Wrangler and thinking, “Nope!” And you would be mistaken because that soft-top is watertight. More importantly, every Jeep® vehicle offers a nice warm ride in the cabin, even when the temperature plummets thanks to available Automatic Temperature Control. Consider making your ride even more comfortable by adding the Cold Weather Group option, in available models. While the package varies a bit from Jeep® to Jeep®, the snow-ready features include windshield wiper de-icers, heated mirrors, all-weather mats, remote start, and even heated seats and steering wheels! No matter which Jeep® you set out with, it’ll keep you warm and toasty through the long winter nights.
Other Drivers: We’ve Got This
As bad as the ice and cold can be, most people would agree the scariest part of winter driving is the other drivers. What you need is a few extra pairs of eyes on the road when things get scary. While the rugged Wrangler expects you won’t be driving with much traffic while doing your winter off-roading, every other model of Jeep® knows you’re likely to be stuck in an icy commute. Thanks to a full array of driver-assist technologies, they can keep watch of your surroundings so you can stay focused on the road in front of you. Available systems such as Blind-Spot Monitoring, Roar Cross-Path Detection, Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist, and Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking can also make winter driving a breeze.
You know, we can go on about how great the Jeep® line is for Edmonton winter driving, but maybe you should just come see it for yourself? Visit us here at Great West Chrysler, and our team would happy to show what a Jeep® can do.
