The Dodge Viper came onto the muscle car market in 1992, and lasted until 2017 when it ceased production. This high-performing sports car made a name for itself as a vehicle with blistering levels of torque and power, a true marvel for adrenaline junkies around the world. It may not be introducing any new series, but the Dodge Viper still holds a special place in our heart at Great West Chrysler. Read on with us as we go through the history of the Dodge Viper and how it’s reverberated through the entire Dodge lineup!
Dodge Viper Model Series
Through its lifespan, the Dodge Viper saw many iterations in its sport car style. Generation 1 (1992-1995) saw it only as a convertible and rocketed it right out of the gate. Generation 2 (1996-2002) added in a coupe style, as well as ABS, rounding out a lighter and more powerful beast. Generation 3 (2003-2006) introduced a revamped style that was tighter and more rigid with, yes, more power. Generation 4 (2008-2010) added even more power, including 100 horsepower, onto a more aerodynamic shell. The final generation, generation 5 (2013-2017), built out of carbon fiber and aluminum, combined unbelievable power with excellent driving mechanics. Getting better and better with age, the Dodge Viper continually doubled down on what made it so successful, its power and looks.
Future of the Dodge Viper
While rumours have abounded over the last year or so that the Dodge Viper could be making its triumphant return soon, those talks have continually been squashed. Muscle cars might not be in their heyday like they once were, perhaps why the Viper is still sitting on the sidelines, but Dodge still offers quality sports cars that can just as easily fill the gap. The Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger are iconic cars that represent all muscle cars present, power and style in an unmistakable package. With the Viper gone, these two Dodge are options are more than enough to bring back that classic muscle feel. But keep your eyes peeled because you never know when a revitalization of the Dodge Viper might be in order.
