It’s spreading like a sickness. People everywhere are walking around aimlessly, flooding the streets at all hours, wandering in packs, and rushing towards something with a feverish hunger in their eyes—like we’re living in a full-on Romero zombie movie. Of course, I’m talking about Pokémon Go.
Three years later, the game still has a strong following here in the City of Champions, and we at Great West Chrysler want to give our aspiring Pokémon Trainers the chance to catch ’em all! With that said, here are the top 5 places to play Pokémon Go in Edmonton.
West Edmonton Mall
Described as a general gold mine for low-level Pokémon, the once biggest mall in the world is perfect for a little Poké Farming. If you Poké Masters can get past the horrible GPS signal and data usage, West Ed is a pretty decent place to up your game. Plus, if you find yourself without the ability to catch Pokémon, there’s always a ride on the Mind Bender to keep you occupied.
Whyte Avenue & Jasper Avenue
We lumped these two together, mostly because they are very similar in overall Poké Quality. While these avenues are traditionally great for cruising around any time of the year, they’re especially great for catching Pokémon. If you aren’t catching any Pokemon, you can always catch a drink or a bite to eat at one of the many, unique Edmonton restaurants and bars.
Since the arrival of Pokémon Go, Griesbach Village (which sounds precisely like a place you’d find Pokémon) has been a hub where wannabe Poké Masters have flocked, gathering around a collection of lures and Poké Stops. This Castledowns neighbourhood regularly attracts nearly 1,000 people to its location, both for its incredibly active Pokémon Go Community, and it’s beautiful autumn leaves along 97th street.
University of Alberta
Is it really a surprise that a place with thousands of people constantly on their phones has been a hot spot for Pokémon activity? The U of A campus has always been a place where students flock, glued to their phone screens, moving in herds—only now the purpose isn’t getting to class, it’s catching a Drowzee. There’s a Poké Stop or Lure available at every turn.
The Alberta Legislature
Our provincial capital building has always been a great place for a walk, or to dip your feet in a pool on a hot summer’s day, only now you can do so at the most Poké-populated area in the city. It’s not just a great place to catch wild Pokémon—it’s a place to catch the rarest of Pokémon. The Legislature’s beautifully-crafted grounds are designed to be used for leisurely walks, which makes your Poké Experience even more enjoyable. Since the birth of Pokémon Go, it’s been packed with people playing the game. Not only has it got a great atmosphere, but it’s THE place to be in the City when it comes to Pokémon.
