1. How Often Do You Change the Oil in a RAM 1500?
An automated oil change indication system is installed in your car. The oil change indication system will alert you by illuminating a message that displays "Change Oil" or "Oil Change Required" on the Driver Information Display (DID).
Oil changes are required at different intervals for the Ram 1500 depending on a variety of operating conditions, including regular short journeys, trailer towing, and abnormally hot or cold ambient temperatures.
The automatic oil change indication system in the 2021 Ram will remind you when it's time to change your oil. Oil changes should never be more than 12 months or 16,000 kilometres apart.
2. What Type of Oil Does a RAM 1500 HEMI V8 Require?
As stated in the manual oil recommendation, the API Certified SAE 5W-20 engine oil that meets the specifications of the manufacturer Material Standard MS-6395 such as Mopar®, Pennzoil, and Shell Helix is recommended for your 2021 Ram 1500 with 5.7 L HEMI® V8. The exact SAE grade can be found on the engine oil filler cap.
Severe Duty Rated Models - Maintenance
If the vehicle is driven in a dusty and off-road area, change the engine oil every 4000 miles (6500 kilometres). This type of vehicle use is characterized and considered as Severe Duty. Maintenance for these vehicles is more demanding more optimal performance. It is recommended to do the following check-up services once a month or before a long trip:
- Check the oil level in the engine.
- Check the level of windshield washer fluid.
- Examine your tires for unusual wear or damage, as well as tire pressure. Rotate your tires as soon as you notice signs of uneven wear, even if it's before your next scheduled servicing.
- Check the coolant reservoir, brake master cylinder, and power steering fluid levels and add as needed.
- All interior and external lighting should be checked for functionality.
